Undefined, uncoded, unbranded, unlabeled and unpredictable are some of the words designers Jose Manuel St-Jacques and Simon Belanger used to describe their brand, and they stayed true to this by presenting an eccentric collection for the Spring/Summer 2013 season. Dark, edgy and Goth are themes you’d associate with Halloween, not a spring collection, but this was the aura during this show. The show started out in complete darkness as a cryptic video appeared on screen which lead to models strutting in smooth black outfits assembled from rayon, crepe and silk. Experimenting with silhouettes with oversized tunics to slim fitted suit pants, UNTLLD achieved contrasting silhouettes, expanding their brand image. They kept the color palette simple with black, white, olive green and a spray of metallic orange at the end. Highlights of the collection included slim fitted olive green suit pants, free flowing black pants and black sheer columned skirt. The collection was inspired by the Haikus, a collection of Japanese poems used to describe the concise nature inherent from season to season. This was apparent as they effortlessly transitioned from black skirts, dresses and pants to whites and metallic orange which are colors more commonly associated with spring. In essence, UNTLLD managed to capture something that many designers missed this season, an adaptable collection that will be able to transition effortlessly from spring to fall.
