Our buddies over at FRED PERRY have some very exciting news. They are celebrating their 5 Year anniversary of being located on Queen Street west.  You can celebrate with them tonight from 6-9PM!

Hard work, talent and being genuine is paying off for Saskatchewan band ONE BAD SON. If you ever get a chance to meet the band, the first thing that you realize is that ONE BAD SON is actually a group of some very good guys.

One Bad Son have been insanely busy lately. Making the 50 hour drive from Vancouver to Ontario, OBS will be playing in 11 cities across the province throughout the month of May. With a concert last night at Cherry Cola’s in Toronto the band is just getting started on their crazy month.

One Bad Son hail from Saskatchewan, and have been making music for 10 years. They’ve struggled and persevered, paying strong attention to their craft and growing as a band from show to show.  With a hit “Scarecrows” on the radio and a soon to be released new music video for their song “It Ain’t Right” expect to hear and see One Bad Son more often.

Yesterday I headed down to the Fossil Showroom to do catch OBS’ Lead Vocalist Shane Volk, Guitarist Adam Hicks, Bassist Adam ‘Granny’ Grant, and Drummer/ Manager Kurt Dahl in the middle of their shopping and find out a little more about the band and to ask them questions about fashion- A topic these rockers rarely get to discuss!

When I finally made it to the Showroom I notice, Granny meticulously curating his Fossil swag, Kurt trying on some shades and Adam and Shane checking out some of Fossil’s new collections online.  The Fossil showroom is absolutely beautiful, and luckily I got a chance to squeeze in some questions when the guys were taking in the endless number of awesome Fossil products.

Although every band member except Shane was in the standard off duty rocker look- Jeans and a flannel, these dudes have some fashion flair. Kurt was in the middle of trying on a white and black leopard print belt “This would be great on stage” he joked.

Their style is pretty eclectic and definitely reflects the bands lifestyle. “We like clothes with a lot of character, our style is kind of 70’s inspired, definitely … just like our music- Led Zeppelin, The Who, Hendrix and the early 90’s with Sound garden Alice and Chains” Kurt Tells us… Then Shane quickly jumps in “And Customized Stuff, things we’ve made ourselves. It’s nice to have one off things that nobody else has.”

Watching their music videos, and seeing photos of the band online, they’ve got the Canadian rocker look down to a T. But when it comes down to it, with One Bad Son, it’s the music that really matters.

Throughout my interview with Kurt and Shane, I really got to discover that OBS, although having a #5 hit, are still in that hustling phase. The band travels extreme distances, works hard and has a very genuine approach to making and performing music. “We are going to do it the old fashioned way, there is no secret success plan for us, we have the new video coming out, lots of touring … Just getting on the road and playing for people, that’s what we’ve done for the past 9 years.. with rock ‘n roll you earn fans one show at a time” Shane tells us.

Well, when it comes to fans, with hits like “Scarecrows” and “It Ain’t Right” they can add one more …

Just the other day, team SD headed down to the Gibson Guitar Showroom to check out what’s new and in store for Converse in Fall/ Winter 2013.

With offerings from John Varvatos, new camouflage and duck boot versions of the Jack Purcell shoes and well as new editions to the Mary Mekko collections.

We loved the John Varvatos snake skin kicks, but take a look at the photos Converse has a lot to offer!

These are bananas! The PUMA Slipstream – previously only available in Germany will be making a big comeback next season. This is just the first look at the first version of the shoe, but it’s looking pretty fierce! What do you think?

Although it really doesn’t feel like it yet, summer is just around the corner! This year Urban Outfitters has hit us with a lookbook that makes us just want summer to come faster! This incredibly diverse lookbook shows chromatic patterns- Aztec, paisley and Hawaiian are all present. Shorts, T’s , tanks and lightweight jackets are hallmarks of this lookbook and we can’t wait until the weather gets just a bit warmer and we can actually wear this stuff!

Hudson’s Bay will now be offering ‘off-priced’ merchandise at indpendant locations all over the Country in the coming year, which is some pretty big news in the world of Canadian Fashion.

We have a seen a surge in the Premium Outlet business in Canada very recently with the emergence Holt Renfrew’s HR2. It seems the Bay, who have also repositioned themselves to become a more high-end destination, will be doing the same.

Hudson’s Bay’s first Canadian Outlet will be located at Toronto Premium Outlets, and the opening date is tentatively set for August 1st.

Toronto Premium Outlets will be located in Halton Hills, which is just North-West of Toronto.

Last week team SD headed downtown to check out the Oakley Sunglasses summer preview.

We love how Oakley continues to push boundaries with style and performance in all categories of their sunglasses.

With a new partnership between Oakley and The Tour de France to celebrate the 100th Tour  you can expect to see TDF branding on Oakley performance eyewear. The brand is also focusing on pro rider Mark Cavendish to be the face of the Oakley X Tour de France collaboration, so look out for Mark in Oakley’s sure to be upcoming marketing push as the tour quickly approaches.

You can also expect to see revamped version of Shaun White’s Holbrook glasses for this season. We dig the Shaun White collection, the combination of style and athletic versatility is a trend that we are seeing in all levels of fashion consumer goods, it’s no surprise that Oakley is one of the brands really pushing the trend.

If your looking for classic, you can always go for the Frogskin- classic and re-worked for this summer. The brand is really pushing electric colours in flat-matte finishes. Look for flat-matte finished sunglasses to eb a major trend this summer.

Two nights ago I was invited to the beautiful distillery district to check out something new from one of my favourite local designers Min Ling.  The event was held at Arta Gallery and celebrated Minling Pan Studio’s 1 year Anniversary.  While the crowd gathered to wish Min Ling good wishes, some of Toronto’s best bloggers were behind the scenes getting ready to walk in the first ever MIN Fashion show.

I’m a big fan of what MIN has been doing, so it’s no surprise that I enjoyed the show.
